SUMMARY:Financing the future of our Oceans: Bridging Climate Resilience and Local Impact
DESCRIPTION:Collaboration between key partners can bring hands-on experience in climate-resilient solutions. In this session\, we aim to bridge the gap between financial mechanisms and on-the-ground delivery of sustainable blue economy initiatives. Drawing from projects that combine marine infrastructure with nature-based solutions\, such as mangrove restoration and coastal protection\, we can show how blended finance and partnerships can unlock scalable impact tailored to national and local needs.

SUMMARY:Harnessing Ocean Monitoring Technology for Hazard Mitigation and Carbon Management
DESCRIPTION:This session showcases how ocean monitoring technologies are critical for understanding and mitigating marine hazards. Experts will use real-time data (satellite to autonomous vehicles) to track heatwaves and oil spills. SUMMARY:New Research Frontiers in Law and Science: From the Deep Sea to Rising Sea Levels
DESCRIPTION:Protecting the Oceans from climate change demands that legal frameworks take the best available science into account. The ITLOS confirmed that GHG emissions constitute a form of marine pollution. The ICJ considered that failure of a State to take appropriate action to protect the climate system from GHG emissions\, including through fossil fuel production and consumption\, may give rise to State responsibility. This panel discusses new knowledge frontiers at the the law/science nexus.

SUMMARY:Pan Amazonian Solutions for Resilient Fisheries Facing Climate Change
DESCRIPTION:Round table: in tropical areas\, the impact of climate change is unfavorable to fisheries production\, but due to a lack of data\, quantitative prediction of species-specific impacts is impossible on the short term. Thus\, the principle of climate change adaptation in fisheries is to ensure the maintenance of resources\, ecosystems\, and the fishing sector in good condition in order to maximize their resilience to change. This requires management at the scale of the Amazon basin based on field data.

SUMMARY:Carbon Services in Marine Ecosystem Accounts: Supporting the UNFCCC and the KMGB Framework
DESCRIPTION:Ocean Accounts integrate ecological\, economic\, and social data\, providing a framework to inform policymaking\, investment\, and trade-off decisions. One of the world’s largest maritime nations\, Portugal was among the first countries to create an Ocean Satellite Account and is now developing a Marine Ecosystem Services Account\, coordinated by IPMA\, with Statistics Portugal. In the spirit of “Global Mutirão”\, this session underscores the urgency of embedding the ocean in climate action.

SUMMARY:Ocean Waves Break(through) in Tropical Cyclone Prediction
DESCRIPTION:Predictions of tropical cyclone (TC) tracks have improved over decades. Predictions of TC intensity lag behind. Strongest TCs tend to be underpredicted. We show that interactive account of wind waves reduces errors of numerical reforecasts by more than 90% (!). More lives will be saved\, particularly in a warmer climate\, if oceanographers and meteorologists work hand in hand on TC forecasting – improving observations\, data assimilation\, modelling\, and interpretation of model output.

SUMMARY:Rethinking the ocean-climate nexus within the UNFCCC
DESCRIPTION:This session aims to stimulate an open discussion on the theme of the ocean at the UNFCCC and to envision a constructive path forward to consolidate the ocean-climate nexus. The primary objectives of the session are to underscore the key role of the ocean in the climate context\, to map existing initiatives and processes within the UNFCCC aimed at integrating the ocean-climate nexus and to evaluate the progress or effectiveness of such action\, and to collectively ruminate on some emerging ideas – such as the introduction of a dedicated ocean agenda item to take stock and ascertain the pathways available\, or the creation of an ocean negotiating group to increase ambition – that could help to further elevate the ocean’s profile within the UNFCCC.

SUMMARY:Tackling climate change impacts and promoting sustainable blue economies in Africa
DESCRIPTION:Climate change is harming marine ecosystems and blue economies through rising sea temperatures\, stronger storms\, and droughts that disrupt fish habitats and livelihoods. Pollution\, overfishing\, and weak management worsen vulnerabilities. Effective action requires building capacity\, local adaptation\, financing access\, and integrating climate measures into blue economy policies. Innovation\, cooperation\, and fair benefit sharing are key to sustainab

SUMMARY:Advocating for the Invisible Microbial Majority That Underpins a Healthy Planet
DESCRIPTION:At the heart of all ecosystems on Earth is an invisible network of micro-organisms that support food webs and underpin the ecosystem services upon which we and our planet depend. Microbes inhabit all parts of the planet – from the land to the ocean\, they recycle nutrients\, fuel roughly half of global carbon fixation through photosynthesis\, while supporting the ecosystem services provided by healthy forests\, abundant fisheries\, and sustainable coral reefs. How do we advocate for this unseen majority? From the land to the sea this invisible world is both a player and a stakeholder in what happens next for our planet. Join us as we highlight the latest science\, and discuss how to include this invisible planetary network in a sustainable future. We can’t ignore this invisible world… we are looking for thought partners on how to advocate for this unseen majority.

SUMMARY:The Role of Artificial Intelligence in Advancing Ocean Science\, Sustainability\, and Climate Adaptation
DESCRIPTION:This panel explores how AI revolutionizes ocean science and conservation. Experts demonstrate AI solutions for: Sustainable Fisheries (ML for tracking and anti-poaching efforts)\, Biodiversity (species identification and habitat health)\, Climate Resilience (predictive heatwaves/storms)\, and Pollution Mitigation (AI robots and drones). AI also supports Marine Strategic Planning by synthesizing vast data for optimal resource allocation and guiding global policy. Collaboration is essential.
