New Research Frontiers in Law and Science: From the Deep Sea to Rising Sea Levels
Protecting the Oceans from climate change demands that legal frameworks take the best available science into account. The ITLOS confirmed that GHG emissions constitute a form of marine pollution. The ICJ considered that failure of a State to take appropriate action to protect the climate system from GHG emissions, including through fossil fuel production and consumption, may give rise to State responsibility. This panel discusses new knowledge frontiers at the the law/science nexus.
