Accelerating Blue Action: Ocean Pathway to a Pacific COP31

The Blue Pacific has repeatedly conveyed to the world the vital importance of the ocean to its peoples – their identity, culture and livelihoods. Since UNFCCC COP23, the Pacific has stepped up advocacy to leverage the consideration of the ocean-climate nexus within the UNFCCC Processes and continues to build alignment between ocean-climate-biodiversity challenges. This panel of Pacific ocean leaders will showcase the vital importance of ocean in the pathway to a Pacific COP31.

Speakers:

  • Filimon Manoni / Pacific Ocean Commissioner / Office of the Pacific Ocean Commissioner, Pacific Islands Forum (Moderator)
  • Hon. Mona Ainu’u / Niue’s Minister for Natural Resources / Pacific Political Climate Champion for Ocean
  • Hon. Josh Wilson / Australia’s Assistant Minister for Climate Change and Energy
  • Dr. Sivendra Michael / Fiji’s Permanent Secretary for Environment and Climate Change and Co-Chair of the 2026 Ocean and Climate Change Dialogue
